Common uses: Menopause is a natural part of a woman’s life and marks the end of menstruation. Every woman who has periods will go through menopause at some time in her life, at any age, but usually during the 40’s or 50’s. The menopause occurs when the ovaries stop responding to certain hormones. As a result, the eggs stop maturing and there is a drop in oestrogen and progesterone levels. These fluctuations cause visible menopausal symptoms such as decreased energy, hot flushes, night sweats, mood swings, thinning hair, weight gain and the list goes on. There are also longer term and potentially more significant effects of reduced oestrogen levels during menopause. Such as osteoporosis, this is when bones begin to thin and become more brittle which can cause them to break more easily. There is also an increased risk of cardiovascular changes such as rising cholesterol levels. Like the test that a doctor may use to diagnose menopause, the Promensil Menopause Test detects the level of Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH) in urine. Before menopause, during the monthly menstrual cycle, the Pituitary gland releases FSH hormone to stimulate the growth and maturity of ovarian follicles. Just before ovulation, there is a significant rise in FSH. After ovulation, the level decreases. With the onset of menopause, the monthly period becomes irregular and ovarian function begins to diminish. And, because the menstrual cycle is broken, FSH levels start to rise. Consistently elevated levels of FSH are a clear indication of the body’s transition to menopause.
Instructions: To obtain accurate results you will need to do both of the tests included in the box. The first test may be carried out on any day. The second test must be carried out exactly one week after the first test. Please reduce liquid intake for 2-3 hours before performing the test. First morning urine is not recommended. Collect urine in the sample cup to the level indicated on the cup. Open one of the foil pouches containing the test strip, do this just before testing, holding the blue tape, take out the strip. Insert the test strip into the small rectangular opening in the white lip at the top of the cup and leave in place. Immediately a pink colour will appear in the test result window of the cup. Read the results in the window at eye level after 10 minutes. Do not interpret results after 15 minutes. On completion of the test remove the used strip from the cup. Discard the strip by returning it to the foil pouch and disposing of it with your household waste. Return the remaining urine to the toilet and wash the cup out using cold tap water (do not use disinfectants or detergents to clean the cup). Keep the cup for the second test. Record the test results in the table provided in the information pamphlet. Repeat the second test after 7 days. If both tests are positive, you may consider that you are in the menopause stage. If one test is positive and one test is negative, you may consider that you are in the peri-menopausal stage or approaching menopause. If both tests are negative, you are not likely to be in the menopause stage. If you have persistent symptoms please seek advice.
